-The stereotypes teen groups are made clear through body language and costumes -Music goes well with genre of the film -Transitions does well and are very effective - editing with the slap was done very well - titles are suitable for genre
- other people in the background which was not meant to be in the setting next time maybe do it in a less busy place and plan the background people. - the voice over has to be more louder - The ending could have been more smoother But overall really good opening
The use of non-diegetic music at the beginning identifies the target audience as youth with the song choice being very upbeat and modern, immediately implying that youth is represented in this film.
The titles are bright and the animation used is lively and energetic, linking into the traits associated with youth.
The different social groups are shown clearly by the geeks reading from books and wearing glasses and the ‘plastics’ looking at themselves in a mirror.
The majority of the shots are smooth and flow well within the opening, creating verisimilitude.
Negatives:
The song used as the main character is getting ready, could have been changed to highlight that the character was different.
The voiceover doesn’t make it clear what type of girl the character is, as it is confusing why she wakes up looking like a stereotypical geek, but then transforms into a ‘plastic’.
The use of more social groups, such as jocks and loners, may have helped the scene seem more realistic and more typical of the genre.
The background sounds make it obvious when a shot changed, disrupting the continuity slightly.
My group’s film opening went well we think, and we believe that the choice of music and style of characters seemed to work well with our genre of film. However, we agree with the improvements given, as the continuity of people being their in one shot, and not in another may confuse the audience when watching the film. Also, if we could re-do parts of the film, it would be good to make sure the background sound, and the people in the background are not making too much noise and that the continuity is shown by what the people in the background are saying too. It would be better to re-do the voiceovers as they seem slightly quiet and they don’t tell you much about the character, however we, as a group, think that the song chosen when they were getting ready, was a good choice, it may be an idea to try and consider songs that may show a typical side to a geek. I like the idea of putting other stereotypical characters in the background of the common room, such as loners and jocks, but due to timing of filming, and the people who were available we were unable to get these characters.
The Bitter Truth PROS = - Stock cahracters are made very clear and the aspects of mise en scene were used very well; such as costume etc... - There was a good emphasis on the close up features of the character, which helped distinguish between the Geek and Popular. CONS= - As a group we felt that certain aspects of the storyline were lost: like the fact that Leah slapped Amy due to her dancing with George, however both characters were not prominent in the frame and therefore the reason was lost on the audience
Positives:
ReplyDeletestereotypical groups are identified well
voice over helps audience recognize character
gives an idea of the story straight away
Improvements:
Continuity is disrupted as characters are there in one shot and gone in the next
-The stereotypes teen groups are made clear through body language and costumes
